adding some toppings to the vanilla.

So, I have quilted all of the individual blocks.

I think it was the most fun I have ever had in doing machine quilting. Well, at least not nearly as stressful as maneuvering a big quilt under my Juki.  Most of the blocks have similar, repetitive designs but on the occasional block, I just had to stitch something a bit different.

So now comes the big decision.  To add or not to add.
The bits 'o color strips.

I had all but decided to only use the goldish bits and already dubbed her as Butter Brickle,  I just had the feeling red was going to be too abrasive.  Not that I think red itself is abrasive, because there is nothing better than red in a quilt. And I am thinking that the blues and greens were adding too much contrast.  I just had mono on my mind.  Or perhaps because it was warm and sunny outside, I didn't need any added color.   But today was cooler and not so bright, I thought to try again.   I needed some reds and greens and blues.  I think I will let her hang a while longer and see what happens during the next few days.

Do you ever think that the way you make a final decision on something creative
just might be based on your mood at the time?  Or the weather?

And now I am so in the mood for color.  So I took 3-4 steps in my studio
and turned to my other design wall.

Another design idea for peacock colors.  Using this as my inspiration.

I think whatever you do this is going to be gorgeous. Let it percolate a day or two I am sure you will have your answer.
I want to see how you are going to put this together...

  2. Mood and weather definitely affect my choices. I don't think there is a wrong choice with this quilt. I think letting it simmer on the design wall for a few days will help you to decided what you want for it or what it wants. I can't wait to see how it ends up as it is pretty fabulous so far!

  3. I know mood and weather affect me greatly. My daughter always laughs when I say, "maybe it's the weather . . " She'll know one day. I alos think you should let it hang for a few days. See how you feel. I LOVE the quilting you did on this one, too cool!

And as for peacock feathers, well they are totally fabulous!

  4. The quilting on this looks fantastic.....I also think our mood effects our creative decisions. I think that is why I like improvisional work so much, even though there is a certain amount of tension and anxiety along the way.

  5. I love your quilting designs. I think the butter brickle concept works well with the neutral feel. Much as I love color, especially RED, I think your attempts with that detracted from the calm neutral feel. Now you have the colorful strips ready for another quilting. I'm babysitting my 3 1/2 year grandson....he just saw the peacock feathers and got very excited!

  6. I am definitely driven by both of the elements. I am struggling with the bee quilt at this moment.. I thought i was done and then something else popped up in my head..
I am curious to see what happens next..
This is one gorgeous quilt! Whatever and however it speaks to you, it will be a quilt to treasure forever!

  9. Gorgeous, gorgeous, that quilting is fantastic, I love it. I don't think I can wait a lot longer to see this quilt finished! Let's hope the weather will be stable as well as your mood.
Yes, we are such a small thing that a couple of rain drops may change our perception completely.

  11. Your quilting is spectacular! Machine quilting is such a kick. I am curious as to how you'll assemble the blocks, and hope you will show us the process. The blues and golds and reds cheer it up. Yup - The mood of the mind and the weather often influence my color choices. I tend to piece different kinds of quilts in summer than in winter. Warm greetings, U

  12. Ha, I do agree with you about taking a decision. But mostly, when I'm not sure, or think a different thing each day, I "let it sleep" (that's what we say in Spanish...) and wait until I forget it... Anyway your mind seems to be boiling right now...

  13. I think hanging your quilt will help you decide over the next few days...it's a personal thing isnt it?

I LOVE colour, but really love the soothing calmness of the buttery bricks ...I think whichever you choose it will be amazing.

Love the machine quilting and like the others will be keen to see how you put it together.

Your design idea for the peacock colours is yummy!

  15. I love reading about your process and seeing what's hanging on your design walls. It's inspiring. I'm working on my first quilt, the top is nearing completion and I'm just thinking about ways to quilt it, leaning toward QAYG, but really have no idea how it will work. It's helpful to read what others are doing. I like a lot how your quilting makes perforated shapes in your design. Beautiful!
