just to much chaos for me, today |

which will calm the chaos a tiny bit? | |

pink/orange silk won out as the flavor of the day for a 58" x 68" finish |
Pulling out all my books showing Gee's Bend quilts, browsing the web for Anna Williams, as well as some of my favorite quilters, it was time to just get on with it. Make a decision to complete this one as best as I could. It was not going to be an Anna Williams masterpiece, nor a Gee's Bend masterpiece, it will just be what it will be. It has been a love/hate affair of sorts, always depending on my mood. There has been difficulty separating the mind and the moods. Try as I might, I was not able to view it with a detached eye. As usual, the emotions won out. It is what it is, I am what I am. Finish this one up and keep exploring.
What have y'all been exploring lately?
I like it with the orange/red silk strips. Is this all silk ties?
ReplyDeleteDo not get discouraged. Take a break and walk away. Give yourself some breathing room and come back to it when you are ready.
ReplyDeleteYou do need to first detach yourself to look at it from a different
perspective.
An extremely talented and gifted artist is what you are! Don't let your mood or anything else ruin your artistic abilities.
Love,
Sujata
What it is-- IS WONDERFUL! It's vibrant and exciting, yet sleek and organized. The silk strips really make all the colors pop, and keep your eye going up and down, wandering within the rows to see what's there. It's a Mary Masterpiece!
ReplyDeleteWell the Gee's Bnd ladies always say "black pops it"...but in this case I like the red. Maybe the black is more stately and elegant though...nice...
ReplyDeleteI just love it and the choice to calm it down was perfect.
ReplyDeleteLove all you do.

Well, I like it! I'm glad you went with the pink/orange. It adds some definition without jumping out at you.
ReplyDeleteLOVE what you did with the ties!!!.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I bet it is more awesome in person!
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that we tend to be our own worst enemies? Thinking that each and every piece we work on "should" be a masterpiece worthy of publication someday. The joy is in the journey, in the process, and in the resolution.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE how you resolved your dilemma (and I so understand the love-hate thing).
I agree with Nifty. I think you hit it on the button with the red. It is really interesting to look at and the little strips of black add to the fun.
ReplyDeleteI vote for the pink/red silk, too, and think like Nifty. Given the visual energy in this piece, however, I can see how it could overwhelm you temporarily. It will be smashing on a bed, if that's your intention for it.
ReplyDeletebest, nadia
Before I knew that you had made a choice, I was hoping you'd go for the pink/red/orange. Looks like a masterpiece to me. Dre in WA
ReplyDeleteHmm, I must really like chaos. I liked it without any sashing! or would have been interesting with really really wide vertical sashing... I get frustrated with my quilts too sometimes...
ReplyDeletewow! I love them all! LOL! Good luck making your decision!! It's stunning however you go decide!
ReplyDeleteExuberant & wonderful, I love !
ReplyDeleteI just see beauty not chaos. Keep at it you will get where you want it to be!
ReplyDeleteSometimes you do need to detach and look with a fresh eye. I often have to 'trick' myself. I leave it for a while and I walk back and glance at it quickly while trying to empty my mind and let the 1st impression in.
ReplyDeleteI also like the pink/orange/red silk. It seems to rest the eye without providing too much contrast.
This is really wonderful - enjoy and celebrate this one for Anna Williams!
